Funeral Director in Vrededorp, Johannesburg
Thom Knight is a leading Funeral Service in Randburg, Johannesburg (Gauteng). We assist families with the relevant decisions and practical arrangements that come with saying goodbye to loved ones.
Thomas Knight founded the company in 1981, earning a reputation for managing every detail with sensitivity and empathy. Today, three generations of his family continue that tradition, with personal supervision at every step to make sure you get the best care during a difficult and often stressful time.
Taking your beliefs and wishes into consideration, we will help you create a personal and meaningful service for your loved ones. We start with personal supervision at every step, and with the important decisions and practical arrangements that come with saying goodbye to loved ones. We would like to think we are gentle, personal, family oriented, respectful and considerate.
Together with an extensive and trusted network of partners, we do national and international repatriation of mortal remains.
We help ease the burden when faced with repatriating a loved one. Thom Kight & Company’s International Division has an extremely experienced team who can assist with the repatriation of mortal remains to and from South Africa and other parts of Africa. If needed, we can travel to other countries to make arrangements from there. We work with an extensive and trusted network of partners across the globe to take care of every detail.
We also embalm and prepare the deceased for repatriation according to strict international standards. This includes embalming the body and placing it in either a metal-lined coffin or insulated thermal bag, properly sealed, for transportation. If, for religious reasons, the body cannot be embalmed, we will obtain documentation from the state health department to allow this.
We offer a range of professional and bespoke funeral services for your loved one.
Whatever you choose, and wherever you choose to hold it, we can help you create a meaningful service. Talk to us about personal touches like flowers, music, and the funeral programme. We can also arrange for someone to officiate at the service if you wish.
It is up to the family to decide about the final resting place in case no wishes were expressed by the deceased.
We have an on-site mortuary and qualified staff to take care of the transport and handling of the deceased. We are available day and night to transfer the deceased to our premises.
To create a place of remembrance, a burial at the local or selected cemetery is appropriate. This includes the purchase of a casket, a graveside, paying a burial fee and a headstone.
The final resting place is flexible, either in line with the deceased’s wishes or even to provide a focal point for the family like a biotree. We can advise you on your options. Cremation entails the buying of a casket or coffin for the mortal remains, then being exclusively reduced to ashes by a cremator. The ashes are placed into an urn for the family to take care of.
If the deceased is to be buried, we will assist you with all the arrangements, including a graveside service if you choose.
To create a place of remembrance, a burial at the local or selected cemetery is appropriate. Burials can be carried out either as casketed bodies or cremated remains and will give family and friends a physical place and fixed location to visit and pay their respects. The burial ritual itself plays an important part for saying a last good-bye and coming to terms with the passing of a loved one.
The burial service can be held in addition to, or in place of, a complete or memorial service and is usually attended by close family and friends only.
If the deceased is to be cremated, we will arrange this with the crematorium. We can advise you on your options regarding the ashes.

Compared with a funeral service and a burial, cremation is a simpler and more cost effective choice.
There are options available to create a meaningful memorial service that honours the deceased after the body was cremated or buried.
